Teeth whitening may just seem like a cosmetic procedure but research shows that whiter teeth create a more confident smile and that promotes better self-esteem. Our Downtown Brooklyn cosmetic dentist at Hanson Place Dental performs supervised teeth whitening tailored to each particular patient. The process can be done to reduce discolored or stained teeth, or simply provide our patients with a brighter, whiter smile to face the world with. We can brighten your smile in just one hour and, if properly maintained, the results can last for many years.

Downtown Brooklyn Dental Care

Before your whitening process, our Downtown Brooklyn cosmetic dentist will usually clean your teeth, fill any cavities and check your gums to make sure they are healthy enough to continue. Most in-office procedures use a hydrogen peroxide paste and a high intensity light to speed up the bleaching chemical reaction. The procedure can actually whiten your teeth four to six shades lighter after only one 60 minute treatment. Our cosmetic dentist also offers teeth whitening systems you can use at home where the whitening can be seen in just days. This involves taking molds of your mouth so we can have soft, custom mouth trays made for you. After a thin ribbon of the chemical is put into the tray, wear it for two hours a day or while you sleep, and your teeth will become their whitest in one or two weeks. The combination of in-office and at-home systems can actually achieve up to 12 to 15 shades of whitening in most patients.

There are many types of teeth whitening procedures available and during your initial consultation our Downtown Brooklyn cosmetic dentist will explain the procedure and products he prefers and help you decide what type of tooth whitening and bleaching product is best for you. Whether in-office or at home, the strength of the bleaching gels and the level of whiteness desired will also be decided on. If you should choose to go with an at-home system, our dedicated staff at Hanson Place Dental will be available for you throughout the treatment period if you should have any questions or concerns. When monitored and supervised by our Downtown Brooklyn cosmetic dentist, teeth whitening procedures are considered safe and very effective.

A cavity is a hole in the tooth that develops as teeth decay or break down. A cavity is formed from plaque. A poor diet and poor oral hygiene habits are some of the factors that play a part in the development of plaque. A cavity (the whole) can grow and get bigger over time. A cavity can develop in one tooth or in more than one tooth (cavities). As the decay worsens some symptoms you may experience when you have a cavity are: a tooth ache, tooth sensitivity, mild or sharp pain when eating or drinking something is hot, cold or sweet, visible holes in your tooth (or teeth, pain when you bite down and pus around a tooth, especially when you press on the gums. If cavities are left untreated they can lead to other, more serious dental problems. Therefore, if you have a cavity it’s very important that you get it repaired. If you suspect that you may have a cavity or are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, we highly recommend that you see our Downtown Brooklyn dentist at Hanson Place Dental for right away so it can be treated as soon as possible.

Downtown Brooklyn Cavity Prevention

Downtown Brooklyn Cavity Prevention

When a cavity first starts to develop, you may not experience any symptoms at all. Therefore you most likely won’t be aware that a cavity is forming. If a cavity is treated in the beginning before you experience pain, you most likely will not require any extensive treatment. That is why we highly recommend that you see our both our Downtown Brooklyn dentist and hygienist at Hanson Place Dental for regular dental checkups and cleanings even if you aren’t experiencing any pain or discomfort. When you get regular dental checkups, our expert dentist will do a thorough dental exam. In doing so, he will not only be able to determine if a new cavity is forming but will be able to diagnose any other dental problems you may have early on. The earlier you are diagnosed with a problem, the sooner you can get treated for it. Early detection and treatment helps to prevent a mild problem from worsening and decreases your chances of the dental problem causing another one.

Downtown Brooklyn dentist and the rest of our professional team at Hanson Place Dental believe the best treatment is to prevent problems from occurring in the first place. That’s why we have a preventative program in place for all of our patients. While problems can occur even with the best dental care and self care, our preventative program is designed to greatly decrease your chances of that happening. Our preventative program is designed to help prevent new cavities, to preserve teeth that have been restored and to manage periodontal disease. Our preventative program includes patient education and regular dental checkups and cleanings. While regular dental exams, care and hygiene visits are important, what you do on a daily basis when you’re not in the office is equally as important. We believe that the more informed our patients are, the better able they are to take care of their oral health on a daily basis. At your initial visit with us, we will provide you with daily self oral care instructions and will follow up with you on subsequent visits.
